The DeKalb Police serve as the law enforcement agency of record for all incidents occurring within the City of DeKalb, Illinois, excluding, Northern Illinois University campus property. The DeKalb Police Department consists of sworn law enforcement officers and civilian personnel. Please note that the DeKalb Police may have limited ability to respond to incidents occurring on campus. (You should contact the DeKalb Police for incidents occurring off campus, including at fraternity and sorority houses.)

The Office of the Ombudsperson provides you with guidance to help solve a variety of university-related issues or conflicts. The office offers confidential, neutral, informal and independent guidance. While the office cannot provide legal advice or advocate on your behalf, the staff can advise you of your rights within the university.
