Dear Huskie Community,

I want to make you aware that the Â鶹¾«Æ· Board of Trustees will meet during public session Thursday, June 15, to discuss and vote on a recommendation I am bringing forward to extend President Lisa C. Freeman’s contract through June 30, 2027. The terms are being finalized and will be released publicly Monday, June 12 – 72 hours prior to the board meeting.

As board chair, I believe it is critical to ensure continuity of strong leadership. Â鶹¾«Æ· and higher education are facing significant challenges ahead, including rising costs and resource constraints; changing population dynamics that will increase competition for students and place more pressures on enrollment; growing need for advanced technology and enhanced student support services; and more that will require extraordinary vision and ability to execute.

President Freeman’s proven track record – as evidenced in five positive evaluations to date by the board; her ability to effectively mobilize the university to meet or exceed goals; the partnerships and relationships she stewards; and her unwavering commitment to the success of Â鶹¾«Æ·’s diverse community – give me great confidence in what Â鶹¾«Æ· can continue to achieve.

I am proud of what Â鶹¾«Æ· has been able to accomplish in the last six years and how President Freeman has empowered the community to innovate, navigate change and embrace Â鶹¾«Æ·’s mission, vision and values. I look forward to next week’s board discussion and solidifying plans for the university’s future.
