The Huskie Food Pantry, located at the south end of the Chick Evans Field House, provides food and resources to Â鶹¾«Æ· students and offers learning and service opportunities to the entire Â鶹¾«Æ· community. .

Ellington's Restaurant reopens Feb. 14.

We are happy to announce that Ellington’s will have our first service tomorrow, Feb. 14. Enjoy a Mediterranean/Greek-themed lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If unable to dine in, a to-go option is available. Ellington’s will be open for lunch most Tuesdays throughout the semester. Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE) registration now open.

The Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE) is Â鶹¾«Æ·'s annual undergraduate research symposium. CURE provides Â鶹¾«Æ· students with the opportunity to formally present faculty-mentored undergraduate research, artistry and engagement projects that they have participated in during the academic year. Register today to present at the conference.

 

During the in-person research symposium on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 students from all colleges will showcase projects they are completing or have completed as part of a capstone or senior project, community engagement project or course, independent study or funded research and artistry program through posters and exhibits for a chance to place in their respective award category.

Penguin Players offers unique volunteer experience

The Penguin Players is looking for students interested in working with adults with disabilities, helping them to rehearse and perform a short musical. No acting or singing experience is required.

 

This is an opportunity to not only help others, but to have a rewarding experience and make friends from across campus. Over the past six years, student participants consistently describe this as their favorite part of the week and one of the most gratifying experiences that they have had on campus. You can get credit for service hours and volunteer hours, if approved by an instructor or other responsible individual.

 

Penguin Players gives adults with disabilities the opportunity to participate in live musical theater by matching them with an Â鶹¾«Æ· student mentor. Together they bring a character to life. Both the artist and mentor learn any lines, songs and dances required of their character. Both appear on stage in the final performance, with the artist taking the spotlight while the mentor is on hand to assist.

 

We meet 4:30 until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Cavan Auditorium, Room 126 in Gabel Hall. For more information, contact Joe King at 815-762-7425.

 

Nominations sought for David W. Raymond Award for Use of Technology in Teaching.

Do you know a classroom innovators? Faculty in all content areas using technology in their classrooms may apply for the David W. Raymond Award for the Use of Technology in Teaching.

• Our Raymond Grant awards $1,000 annually.
• All tenured/tenure-track faculty are eligible.
• Faculty may be nominated by students, colleagues or themselves.

Tip from a Huskie

"One of the best ways to meet new people is to just go up to them. There are people I've noticed who are in almost all the same classes as me, so I go up to them and tell them just that. I tell them I've seen them in a couple of my classes and introduce myself. I also use discord to meet new people. As a computer science student, there's actually a discord for computer science majors where you can talk with people in your classes or talk with other computer science students."

Not all conflict is avoidable—here’s how to navigate fights with your partner.

If you’ve ever been in a romantic relationship, you know that arguments are almost inevitable. In a recent CampusWell survey, 60 percent of student respondents said they’d experienced a fight with a romantic partner. Just like an occasional disagreement with a sibling, parent, or roommate, it’s normal to experience conflict with someone you spend a lot of time with (and, in this case, devote your feelings to).
