The last time 鶹Ʒ defeated Power 4 opponents was last year vs Boston College and 2021 vs Georgia Tech. With this national victory, 鶹Ʒ tallied its 19th BONEYARD VICTORY and added the Fighting Irish to the list.

Call for Nominations for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards
|
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning is now accepting nominations for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards for 2024-2025. You can find the details and submission guidelines at go.niu.edu/outstanding-ta-award.
Each academic or academic support unit that employs graduate TAs for teaching and related activities is invited to nominate two (2) outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistants, one at the master’s level and the other at the doctoral level, from its department/school for the awards.
Nominations can be submitted by the department chair/school director or designee. Nominators must complete the nomination form for each nominee, although you may also provide additional supporting documents. We encourage nominations to be as descriptive as possible in supporting the nominee, and to include additional evidence such as student testimonials, course evaluations, or samples of teaching materials.
Email the entire nomination, including any supporting documents, by Friday, October 25, 2024, to citl@niu.edu with the subject line “Nomination for 2024-2025 Outstanding TA Awards”.

Richard A. Flournory Award nominations now being accepted.

The Richard A. Flournory Award was created in 2020 to recognize individuals who have worked to promote inclusivity at 鶹Ʒ over an extended time period. The annual award is sponsored by the Office of Academic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Presidential Commission on the Status of Minorities. It is presented to recipients at the Richard A. Flournory Homecoming Inclusion Reception.
The one-time, nonmonetary award is presented to students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of 鶹Ʒ. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding commitment to building an inclusive 鶹Ʒ campus and contribute to developing and sustaining a diverse and equitable 鶹Ʒ community.

At noon Sept. 19, don’t miss “Outreach, Engagement and Partnerships: Lessons Vital to Universities in a Post-pandemic World” — a presentation by Professor Barrie P. Bode, Ph.D., 鶹Ʒ professor of biological sciences and 2023 Distinguished Engagement and Partnerships Professor.
Barrie Bode spent his career doing research on cancer biology. In response to the pandemic, Professor Bode’s community engagement and partnerships linked cancer education with an innovative campus wastewater surveillance testing program developed and still underway at 鶹Ʒ. The testing program's subsequent expansion provides exemplars for university/community collaboration, sustainability and evolution in a rapidly changing world.

Testing Services can make scoring your exams and quizzes faster, easier and more accurate. In addition to scoring your exams, we provide a variety of analytical reports to help you evaluate your assessments. To have your exams processed, bring your completed Scantron sheets and answer key(s) to our office in the Peters Campus Life Building, Room 120. You may submit a quiz or exam after hours by using our drop box located to the right of our office door. Participants needed for a breastfeeding awareness discussion.

What is the purpose of this study? To discuss the factors that influence a person’s breastfeeding awareness level.
Help human milk feeding research and earn $20 for your time!
|
- What will I do? You will be asked questions in a focus group setting held on the 鶹Ʒ campus to discuss what influences breastfeeding awareness.
- How long will the study take? Participating in this focus group will take about 45 minutes.
- Benefits: The information collected will serve as an initial discussion and examination of the measurement tool. Once the tool is created, it will enable the researcher and others in lactation research to see how prior breastfeeding exposure can impact research.
- Risks: Being a part of the focus group is completely voluntary. No identifying information is collected.

Meet with one of our nutrition coaches to learn eating strategies for your nutrition challenge — whether you want to lose weight, get stronger at the gym, improve a health marker or build a better relationship with food — we’re here to help. For a one-time fee of only $99, meet with a nutrition coach through the fall semester (rates outside 鶹Ʒ range from $70-$100 per session). The earlier you the more sessions you’ll receive this fall (up to 12 visits).

The Office of the President seeks to identify a member of the Supportive Professional Staff or Operating Staff interested in serving a year-long professional development fellowship. The Office of the President Staff Fellow will be assigned special projects needed to carry out the functions of the Office of the President and will be afforded professional development opportunities. The fellow will be appointed for the 2025 calendar year and will report to the university’s chief strategy officer. Learn more about the President Staff Fellow Program, including how to apply. The University Grants Academy (UGA)
|
The Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships (RIPS) and the Office of Research Development (ORD) are accepting applications to the University Grants Academy (UGA) and University Grants Academy Level-Up (UGA 2.0).
The UGA is a semester-long experience that increases faculty capacity to obtain extramurally funded grants. The UGA supports extramural grant applications that are considered significant for the applicant’s field. Applicants need not be grant novices, but should not have secured major extramural funding in the past. Distinct from the UGA, UGA 2.0 targets faculty who have held significant extramural funding and are seeking the next level of funding opportunities.
Tenure track faculty are eligible to apply to both programs which will take place in spring 2025. Applications are due Oct. 2. Interested faculty must prepare and submit a proposal via ORD’s internal competition portal. Complete information on these programs is available on the webpage.

10-day count: Overall enrollment holds steady, new transfers surge and new freshmen bring high academic credentials

Northern Illinois University’s overall enrollment held steady this fall, buoyed by a surge in transfers, an academically talented freshman class, an uptick in the number of new graduate and law students and continued reenrollment successes.
The annual 10-day count shows enrollment of new transfer students increased over last fall by more than 10%—for a total of 1,462 new students coming to 鶹Ʒ from other colleges.
