With supervisor approval, and assurance that appropriate coverage is maintained for the unit/department, all employees are encouraged to volunteer and participate in Homecoming week activities. We hope you'll help us welcome Huskies back to DeKalb for our 116th Homecoming.

Help support the Huskie Food Pantry during our 116th Homecoming.
Throughout the week of Homecoming, the Huskie Food Pantry is conducting a fundraising event. Donations will be accepted in room 150 of the Peters Campus Life Building or during the in the MLK Commons on Monday, at the on Thursday, and at on Saturday. Help us reach our goal of receiving:
By donating any of these items to the pantry, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a large basket of Âé¶¹¾«Æ· swag and tickets to events including a basketball game, a performance from the College of Visual and Performing Arts and a guest presentation by Former Chicago Bear Charles Tillman.
The first 250 people to donate $10, 2 toiletry items, or one 3 hour shift will also receive a 116th Homecoming tote bag.

Âé¶¹¾«Æ·'s Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Center’s inaugural is happening on Friday Oct. 27, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Holmes Student Center. .
In a cross-divisional partnership between the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the conference will offer space to engage in powerful conversations that promote understanding, increase empathy and facilitate change in our community. Experience dynamic speakers and interactive sessions led by Âé¶¹¾«Æ·'s students, faculty, staff and community members. Keynote speakers include Dr. Tia Brown McNair and Ainka Jackson and featured speakers include Dr. Caleb Stephens, Michelle Donahoe and Dr. LaVonya Bennett. Funding available for undergraduate research.
Submissions for the Student Engagement Fund (SEF) and the Research, Engagement and Academic Diversity (READ) Grant are being accepted through Nov. 2. SEF provides funding for students working on faculty-mentored research projects in all areas, while the READ grant provides funding for topics focusing on social justice, diversity, social innovation or social entrepreneurship with a view to improving social and/or cultural issues and inequities.
Faculty can apply for stipends to pay up to three undergraduate student researchers, and to cover up to $500 in project supplies per student. Visit our website for full details and how to apply.

Letters of Nomination are now being accepted for the Exemplary Faculty Mentoring Award.
Faculty who came to Âé¶¹¾«Æ· at the beginning of the university-wide faculty mentoring program (2019-) are especially encouraged to consider nominating their mentor for this prestigious award.
Applications may be secured from department chairs or contact the associate vice provost
for faculty mentoring at jhamlet@niu.edu. Deadline is Oct. 20, 2023. Submit applications to jhamlet@niu.edu.
Call for Nominations for 2024 Excellence in Online Teaching Award
Nominations for the 2024 Excellence in Online Teaching Award are now being accepted. This award recognizes Âé¶¹¾«Æ· faculty and instructors whose performance exemplifies a commitment to excellence in online teaching, course development and student engagement.
All those who teach online or hybrid courses (tenured and tenure-track faculty members, instructors and teaching staff) are eligible. There is no limit as to the number of nominees from any department/program or college. Self-nominations are allowed and encouraged.
Award recipients receive a plaque and a $2,000 one-time stipend.

Huskies! Be sure to mark your calendars! Ellington’s Restaurant reopens its doors Tuesday, Oct. 10. Each week, BADM 303 students create and prepare themed meals for you, your friends and your colleagues to enjoy. Service takes place every Tuesday through Dec. 5 (closed Nov. 21). Menus are posted to both our Ellington’s website and the . We thank you in advance for your continued support as our students gain hands-on experience. No reservations required. SPA to Offer SciENcv training in preparation for NSF October mandate.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) will require the use of SciENcv to prepare biographical sketches as well as current and pending (other) support for proposals submitted on or after Oct. 23, 2023. Use of SciENcv will also be required for any key personnel documents submitted after this date related to post-award requests (e.g., if adding a new Co-PI).
To assist faculty, SPA is hosting a live training session 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Office hours will also be available for drop-in assistance 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4 and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11.

We need your brain! The Âé¶¹¾«Æ· Speech-Language Hearing Clinic is conducting a study of the effects of COVID-19 “Brain Fog†on short term memory. Participants will be asked to complete a case history, hearing evaluation, tests of cognition, and a brainwave assessment. If you are 18-55 years of age and have normal hearing, are a native English speaker, and no history of drug/alcohol abuse, ADD/ADHD, learning disability, or other neurological disorder, you are eligible. The study will take about three hours and pays $60. Email Matt Wilson at mwilson@niu.edu to learn more.
